Male Breast Reduction

What Is Male Breast Reduction?

Breast enlargement in men, also called gynecomastia, can be a very embarrassing condition. Young men and teenagers, who often are affected, may avoid exposing their chest out of fear of being ridiculed. The breast enlargement may be temporary, but if it does not resolve with time different surgical procedures are available to treat it.

The procedures remove fat, breast tissue and sometimes skin from the breasts, resulting in a chest that is flatter, firmer, and better contoured. The definition of the pectoralis muscle is usually much improved.

Treatment of gynecomastia sometimes is covered by medical insurance.

The results of the procedure are significant and usually permanent. If the cause of the original breast enlargement was never treated or you continued to take certain drugs or medications, some breast growth can occur. If your expectations are realistic, chances are good that you’ll be very satisfied with the results of the surgery.

Before & After

Recovery

Recovery for male breast reduction surgery is about 4-6 weeks. Dressings will be applied to your incisions postoperatively as well as an ace wrap or compression garment to help with swelling.

Drains are usually placed during surgery to collect any excess fluids and blood. These remain in place until your output reaches a certain level consecutively and then are removed.
