KYBELLA® Non-Surgical Treatment

Crisp, tight, defined jawlines are one of the most requested facial features. Sometimes there is a little extra fullness under the chin, creating a “double chin” that interferes with achieving this look. This submental fullness could be something that you have had your entire life (genetic), or something that has developed over the years (aging), or something you have noticed recently (weight gain).

WHAT CAUSES SUBMENTAL FULLNESS?
Both men and women may be affected by submental fullness, which can be caused by:

  • WEIGHT GAIN
  • GENETICS
  • AGING

People often say the same thing, they have been eating healthy and exercising and they can’t seem to make their “double chin” go away. The frustrating part is this small amount of fullness can make them look much heavier that what they really are. KYBELLA® is a great option when genetics or aging are working against your goals.

KYBELLA® MAY HELP IMPROVE YOUR CHIN PROFILE

The great part about KYBELLA® is it is a nonsurgical way to reduce submental fullness and banish the “double chin.” KYBELLA® has nothing else close to it on the market in terms of effectiveness and efficiency in destroying fat cells. It can be done in the office with a series of injections to help create the jawline profile that you want.

HOW KYBELLA® WORKS

The active ingredient in KYBELLA® is synthetic deoxycholic acid. Deoxycholic acid is a bile acid that you naturally produce within your body. Its function is to breakdown dietary fat in the intestine so you can absorb the fat for energy. However, when it is injected into fat beneath the chin, the acid destroys the fat cells and they are no longer able to store fat. This results in a lasting result and you will likely not require additional treatment once you achieve your aesthetic goal.

WHAT TO EXPECT WITH KYBELLA®

Before injecting the KYBELLA®, Dr. Samimi or Dr. Kohani will exam the area under your chin and jawline to determine if KYBELLA® is the best option for you. If it is determined that Kybella will help you achieve your aesthetic goals, your doctor or nurse will customize your treatment for you. Before and After instructions and photos will be done and an appointment will be made for treatment.

HOW IS KYBELLA® ADMINISTERED?

KYBELLA® is a medication and call only be injected by a trained doctor or registered nurse. It is either injected through a series of small injections or by a blunt cannula. The entire procedure usually takes around 15 to 20 minutes. Applying ice before and after injection helps with any discomfort that you may experience.

HOW MANY KYBELLA® TREATMENT SESSIONS WILL I NEED?

Everyone is unique so the number of treatments and method of injection is customized for each patient. Dr. Samimi, Dr. Kohani, or your registered nurse will help plan the number of treatments you will need based on your submental fat and your esthetic goals. We recommend that you space treatments about 3 months apart, and most patients notice results after 2 treatments.

WILL I NEED TIME TO RECOVER?

Patients usually need a couple days to recover after being injected with KYBELLA® as swelling and bruising is common under your chin. Please let us know (619) 232-3040 if you develop an uneven small, have difficulty breathing, or notice facial muscle weakness. Other side effects may include hair loss, open sores (ulcers), or tissue cell death (necrosis) where the KYBELLA® was injected.

WHAT SHOULD I TELL MY DOCTOR BEFORE TREATMENT?

Before receiving KYBELLA®, tell your doctor or nurse about all of your medical conditions, including if you:

  • Have had or plan to have surgery on your face, neck, or chin
  • Have had cosmetic treatments on your face, neck, or chin
  • Have had or have medical conditions in or near the neck area
  • Have had or have trouble swallowing
